The Foundry workshop /
The foundry workshop is a collaboration with Bleedenstorm, Eindhoven.
This project explores the metal casting craft, focusing on the lost-wax and sand casting technique.
The lost-wax method dates from the 3rd millennium BC and has sustained few changes since then, the sand casting technique is instead characterized by using sand as mold material.
During history, these techniques were often employed because they gave the possibility of assembling existing objects together and then cast a new different object.
The objects created during a three months workshop make use of the material properties of bronze and tin and take advantage of the possibilities offered by these methods by using and assembling already existing shapes to finally turn them into different objects during the casting process.
Wave is a paper weight and uses the sand casting technique and the weight of tin to turn a small piece of corrugated plastic sheet into a paper weight.
Indulgent mirror is a reference, instead, to the historical cosmetic uses of bronze.
Fascinated by the patina of bronze, indulgent mirror utilizes bronze and its aging process, so to age with its user and to give a less and less accurate vision by time goes by, revealing beauty in its imperfection.
